Manufacturing in province changes little in March
WINNIPEG — Manitoba’s manufacturing sector hit the pause button in March, according to new Statistics Canada figures released today.
The agency said the province’s manufacturers shipped out $1.29 billion worth of goods during the month. That was essentially unchanged from the previous month, although technically it will go into the books as a 0.1 per cent decline ($1.296 billion versus $1.297 billion).
On a year-over-year comparison, the sector fared a little better. March’s sales total was a 3.5 per cent improvement from March of last year, when $1.25 billion worth of goods were sold.
StatsCan said Manitoba was one of only three provinces that didn’t see their sales increase from February to March. Canada also saw its sales climb by 1.9 per cent to $49.7 billion.
