ManyFest details unveiled

More than 35,000 people are expected to flock to Broadway this weekend for the second annual Manyfest - yes, even more people than you’d see at quitting time on Broadway most Friday afternoons.

The second-annual downtown street party kicks off at noon Friday with a wine and cheese festival in Memorial Park that continues until 6 p.m. Sunday.

Friday at sundown, bring your blanket to Memorial Park and watch the movie How to Train Your Dragon.

Running shoes are the order of the day Sunday at 8 a.m. - all kinds of road races, one person, two person, relays, for five kilometres, 10 kilometres, and 10 miles.

And if that’s not enough physical activity, the Big Dance goes from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, in the north lanes of Broadway. Yes, closed to traffic, wise of you to check that out first.

New this year is the Parade of Lights at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, in which you’re both the parade and the lights. Pick up a candle or a bike glow and walk or cycle along Broadway.

Meanwhile, farmers’ and artisans’ markets will run Saturday from 4 to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Same hours for the kids’ zone both days, featuring bouncers, clowns, giant sand boxes, inflatable slides, crafts, buskers, and other activities.

Physical activity continues Sunday in the a.m. with a Zumbathon in Memorial Park from 9 to 11, with a minimum donation of $10.

Finally, there’ll be 14 street game events Sunday spread out on a traffic-free course from Assiniboine Park to The Forks: bicycles, live art, a garage sale, soap box derby, exercise classes, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
