CentreVenture's McGowan discusses downtown development

  • Print

The man leading the charge to redevelop downtown Winnipeg is coming to the Free Press News Café.

Ross McGowan, president and CEO of CentreVenture Development Corp., will drop by for an interview at 1 p.m. Thursday at the café 237 McDermot Avenue. If you can't make it to the café, the interview will also be webcast on this page.

On Tuesday, McGowan announced at its annual general meeting that CentreVenture would demolish the Carlton Inn in August, paving the way for part of the massive overhaul for the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

He also announced an expression of interest would be put out this weekend for the St. Regis Hotel, which CentreVenture bought last year.

McGowan is one of the central figures in the development of a sports, hospitality and entertainment district, or SHED, in downtown Winnipeg. The more than $600-million project is scheduled to overhaul 11 downtown blocks in the next five years.
