Memorial service today for former mayor Norrie

A memorial service for Bill Norrie will be held today at 1 p.m. at the Crescent Fort Rough United Church, corner of Nassau Street and Wardlaw Avenue.

Norrie, died  July 6  at age 83.

The soft-spoken former mayor is best known for overseeing the Core-Area Initiative and creation of The Forks in the 1980s. He served five terms in a row from 1979 to 1992, when municipal elections were held every three years.
