Two inmates tried to escape from the Milner Ridge Correctional Centre Tuesday but didn’t get far, a justice department spokesman said Wednesday.

"No one escaped. Two offenders were stopped during an escape attempt at Milner Ridge Correctional Centre on July 16, 2013," a department spokesman said by email.

The escape attempt is under investigation.  No further details were provided.

Milner Ridge is a medium-security correctional centre run by the province. It’s located in the middle of the Agassiz Provincial Forest, about 90 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.
