Mira Black performs at News Café today

Winnipeggers will remember her as Mira Sahay, the exuberant singer with local band Acoustically Inclined, a six-piece electro-acoustic folk/rock act that barnstormed Canada and North America throughout the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.

But Mira Black has come a long way from those days, baby. Now Chicago-based, Black has reinvented herself on her new solo outing, Mira. More refined but still wonderfully adventurous, Black merges her sultry, quasi-jazz vocals with a textured electronic underpinning, all expertly sewn together by house music legend Vince Lawrence, whose own Slang Label is releasing the album.

Mira Black returns home May 25 to launch her new album at the West End Cultural Centre.

Today she chatted with Uptown editor John Kendle and played a couple of songs from that album at the Winnipeg Free Press News Café.
