An 86-year-old Winnipeg man who had been missing in the woods near Hadashville has been located.

Joseph Kuz was visiting family and friends in Hadashville, in the RM of Reynolds, when police say he went on a planned hike in the forest, north of the Trans-Canada Highway, west of Hadashville.

He left early Thursday morning and was expected home that night. Family alerted RCMP Friday morning of Kuz’s disappearance; since then a massive search had been carried out with RCMP Search and rescue personnel, Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner, Department of Natural Resources, local firefighters and volunteers searchers.

RCMP searchers on all-terrain vehicles located Kuz in a heavily wooded swamp in the search area around 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Kuz is dehydrated and tired, but otherwise in good health, RCMP said Monday.  He was taken to hospital for treatment and observation.

Kuz is in good shape for his age, and often goes on prospecting hikes to search for rocks. He grew up near Hadashville, his nephew said Saturday.
