Moose lose Baumgartner to injury

  • Print

Already set to retire one captain’s number, the Manitoba Moose will be without the services of current captain Nolan Baumgartner for at least a week, the team confirmed Thursday.

Although it’s believed Baumgartner injured his wrist Tuesday night in Wilkes-Barre, the club was more vague about the malady.

"He’s got a lower-body injury depending on which way he holds his arm up," winked Moose head coach Claude Noel. "He’s out a week, potentially two. So that’s a big loss for us.

"But that’s OK. We’ve got other guys who can lead and pick up pace."

Baumgartner’s injury leaves the Moose (28-16-1-5) with just six defenceman and could lead the recall of Ryan McGinnis from the ECHL.

Bad timing for the captain’s injury, as the Moose are about to embark on a six-game home stand, beginning Friday night against the San Antonio Rampage at the MTS Centre.
