The Manitoba Moose have offered their head coaching position to Claude Noel.

Noel and the club are in negotiations but a deal is expected to be reached with an announcement coming early in the week.

Noel, who took over behind the bench of the Columbus Blue Jackets last season after Ken Hitchcock was fired, was not immediately available for comment on Friday.

The Moose refused comment as well.

Noel coached the Milwaukee Admirals to a Calder Cup championship in 2003-04.

The Blue Jackets named Noel interim head coach in early February after terminating Hitchcock. Columbus was 22-26-9 when Noel took over and finished 32-35-15 on the season.

The Blue Jackets elected not to retain Noel, instead hiring Moose coach Scott Arniel.

Noel has been a head coach in the ECHL, IHL, AHL and NHL over a 20-year coaching career.
