Moose trade goalie Goehring to Rampage

THE league-leading Manitoba Moose made one trade at the American Hockey League roster freeze deadline today, granting third-string goaltender Karl Goehring his wish by trading him to the San Antonio Rampage for forward Derek Nesbitt.

Goehring, 29, had a 15-9-2 record with the Moose this season after being brought in as a veteran to complement young star Cory Schneider, but when the Vancouver Canucks sent down Curtis Sanford, Goehring was relegated to the pressbox most nights.

Moose general manager Craig Heisinger said he would try to trade Goehring to another club where he could have more opportunity to play, and he appears to have done that by sending Goehring to the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes.

In Nesbitt, the Moose are getting a forward who has scored six goals and 15 points in 49 games this season. The Egmondville, Ont., native, has scored 50 points in 95 career AHL games.

Conjecture is the Moose were trying to land a quality defenceman for the remainder of the season but they were unable to do so. Earlier today, the club found out that forward Michel Oullett was out for the remainder of the season due to injury.
