Fogging trucks to return to Winnipeg streets tonight

WINNIPEG - City fogging crews will return to Winnipeg streets tonight -- if weather permits -- due to an increase in nuisance mosquito activity, officials said today.

Starting at 9:30 p.m. the insect control branch plans to fog with malathion insect management areas 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 26, 27, 36 and 38, which includes areas in:

  • Transcona,
  • St. Boniface,
  • St. Vital,
  • Charleswood, and
  • St. James

A map of the locations to be fogged is available on the city's website.

All buffer zones will be respected: Crews will not fog within 100 meters on each side of a registered property on the front street, side street, and rear lane.

Fogging does not take place when temperatures are below 13 C and/or wind speeds and/or rain fall are not conducive to fogging. Environment Canada is calling for temperatures around 17 C Saturday night with a 30 per cent chance of showers.

Until further notice, fogging will be carried out on a daily basis between the hours of 9:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Daily Public Service Announcements will be released at least eight hours in advance of fogging. To find out where city crews will be fogging, citizens are encouraged to visit the website at www.winnipeg.ca/bugline or call 311.
