Motorcycle rider raising funds for ALS groups

Doug Oakley is not letting the diagnosis of a debilitating disease get in the way of his passion for riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

The 47 year-old Boston mortgage broker learned 18 months ago that he had the degenerative disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

But with a little modification to his bike he’s embarked on a cross-country tour that will hit Winnipeg Tuesday morning to try to raise $100,000 for Boston-based ALS organization Compassionate Care, ALS Canada and provincial ALS groups.

Harley riders are invited to join Oakley to see him off on the next leg of his trip Tuesday morning  at Harley Davidson of Winnipeg, 1377 Niakwa Rd. East at 9 a.m.
