Musician's mother dies

The mother of one of the city's most talented and reclusive musicians has lost her battle with cancer.

Remy Shand's mother Lana Shand died on March 4. She and her husband Doug home-schooled Remy, who could play the keyboards, guitar and drums before he was a teenager.

He recorded his debut solo album, The Way I Feel, in his parent's Garden City condo, playing almost every instrument himself. It was released on Motown Records and went on to sell 750,000 copies.

Lana was also creative, with a passion for writing and poetry. She and Doug collected vintage clothing and opened their own store, Vintage Glory, in the Exchange District last year.

A private service to celebrate her life has already been held.
