Natural gas rate to remain unchanged

Manitoba’s utility regulator has approved an application by Centra Gas to maintain the primary natural gas rate at 9.67 cents per cubic metre as of Feb. 1.
The rate has been unchanged since Aug. 1 last year.
The unchanged rate is a reflection of the abundant supplies of natural gas on the market, due in part to new extraction methods in North America.
However, the PUB says in a news release this week that natural gas prices have historically been volatile.
It says Manitobans should consider installing a high-efficiency furnace and improving home insulation.
Centra is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Manitoba Hydro and is Manitoba’s largest natural gas distributor.
