New Jets logo a boost to military families
Flying the Jets logo won't just bolster the team -- the new brand will also boost military families.
In recognition of the military giving its blessing on the Royal Canadian Air Force-inspired logo, True North Sports and Entertainment commited $1 million over 10 years to military charities, including the Military Family Fund and the Air Force Heritage Fund, said the commander of 1 Canadian Air Division, based in Winnipeg.
Speaking to the media at 17 Wing's NORAD building on Saturday, Maj.-Gen. Alain Parent said the commitment and the use of the RCAF roundel in the Jets logo was a "win-win situation."
"We feel that Canadians really appreciate their military right now," Parent said. "We really enjoy this. It's something we don't take for granted."
Parent noted that the military met with TNSE to hammer out an agreement, and ensure the company and its team would do the RCAF imagery proud. Decisions on use of military imagery are made on a "case-by-case basis," Parent added.
In the end, Mark Chipman's vision passed with flying colours. "A hockey player has to be fast, agile, fit and a team player," Parent said. "These are all characteristics of the men and women of the Canadian air force."
