New Year banners will brighten Chinatown today

WINNIPEG - Banners designed by Red River College students will decorate Chinatown this week, part of the Chinese New Year festivities.

Kate Loewen designed the Year of the Tiger banners that will be unveiled later today on street poles in the city’s Chinatown district.

Loewen’s design was chosen from a field of 63 entries to the annual design contest.

The banners will be official unveiled at a banquet at the Kum Koon Garden tonight.

The Chinese New Year follows the lunar calendar and it’s recognized this year to begin Feb. 14.
