UFC Canada has confirmed via its Twitter account that Winnipeg’s UFC 161 card will feature a new main event – Rashad Evans vs. Dan Henderson in a battle of light heavyweights.
It was first reported on the weekend by Brazilian MMA website Tatame that interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao suffered a foot injury last week and it has not healed sufficiently, forcing him out of his title defence against Eddie Wineland on the June 15th card at MTS Centre.
UFC Canada confirmed it Tuesday via its Twitter account (@UFC_Canada) and then announced the Evans-Henderson bout had been bumped up to the main event. The UFC 161 card also features another solid bout in Mauricio Shogun Rua vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
Barao has served as the interim bantamweight champion with Dominick Cruz recovering from knee surgery. His bout with Wineland was to be his second title defence.
