Winnipeg-born Olympian Clara Hughes helped open a new recreation park in Elmwood Tuesday that bears her name.
The city, province and Ottawa chipped in a total of $758,000 for the skate park, jungle gym and new hockey pad. It's on the site of the former Kelvin community club on Henderson Highway.
Hughes, who has won six Olympic medals, called the site her seventh.
"The things I am most proud of are the things that have involved children, using sport for development," said Hughes.
Also on hand to cut the ribbon on the park was MP Lawrence Toet, Local Government Minister Ron Lemieux and local city councillor Thomas Steen.
