New ultrasound technology to be tested

The province has announced it will spend $150,000 to test new ultrasound technology at Pan Am Clinic that diagnoses and treats soft-tissue injuries and conditions.

The province will collaborate with Echometrix, a company based in Wisconsin that has developed software that can map measurements of tissue strain and stiffness and visually display the existing condition. The software can also be used to see whether an injury has changed or healed over time.

The province signed a memorandum of understanding with Echometrix last October and will fund the research through Manitoba’s Science and Technology International Collaboration (STIC) fund.

More than 300,000 patients from Manitoba and northwestern Ontario visit the Pan Am Clinic each year.
