New-vehicle sales rebounded in Manitoba in August after two consecutive months of declines, new Statistics Canada figures show.
The agency said today that 5,368 new cars and trucks were sold in August. That was an 8.6 per cent increase from the previous month and an eight per cent improvement from a year earlier.
The increase followed two consecutive months of month-over-month declines.
The figures show the month-over-month improvement was evenly divided between trucks and cars. Sales of passenger cars were up 8.2 per cent — 1,945 units versus 1,708 — while sales of trucks, which includes trucks, vans, mini-vans, sport utility vehicles and buses, rose by 8.8 per cent to 3,423 from 3,145.
August’s rebound left new-vehicle sales running 10.1 per cent ahead of last year’s pace after the first eight months of 2013 — 39,010 units versus 35,438.
