It’ll take more than a summer deluge to dampen the enthusiasm of Winnipeg’s comedy crowd.
Just three weeks after a major rainstorm — and the subsequent flooding of Rumor’s Comedy Club — forced cancellation of the local audition for SiriusXM Canada’s Next Top Comic competition, the event has been rescheduled in a higher, drier venue.
The last stop on the Canada’s Next Top Comic audition tour will now take place on Tuesday, July 16 at 8 p.m. at The Cheer Bar & Grill (437 Stradbrook Ave.). The tryout, hosted by Ben Miner of SiriusXM’s Comic Stripped, will feature a dozen local comedians competing for a chance to win a spot in the Just For Laughs JFL42 Comedy Festival in Toronto. The winner takes home a grand prize of $15,000 and the title of SiriusXM’s Next Top Comic.
Eight finalists will be chosen by the contest’s judges, with three performers advancing to the semifinal round. Starting on July 29, Canadians will be invited to vote online for their favourite acts.
