Noel says clean points are 'huge' for the Jets

WINNIPEG -- Winnipeg Jets coach Claude Noel frequently speaks about his joy level.

It's high today and not just because the Jets defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-1 here on Thursday night

"The thing that’s really big for us right now is that we’re getting clean points," Noel said today, as the Jets prepared to meet the Washington Capitals at the MTS Centre on Saturday afternoon (2 p.m., CBC, TSN1290).

"We’re getting a lot of clean points. That’s huge.

"We’re not sharing anything and we’d like to continue down that road if we could."

By that, Noel means the Jets aren't in overtime or shootout games, where both teams share in the points. The last Jets game to go to extra time was Feb. 5, an overtime win over Florida. Winnipeg has only had three extra-time games this season -- one shootout loss and two OT wins.

Their current run of wins, five in the last six games, have all been in regulation time.

That has helped the Jets move up to the eight slot in the NHL's Eastern Conference standings.

"We’re above the (playoff) line," Noel said. "There are a lot of things to be happy about today. Just a sense of accomplishment, that’s great. But like I said before, I won’t be separating my shoulders patting ourselves on the back.

"We’ve got work to do.

"It’s great, from where we came from. People were writing us off before we went on the road. ‘It was the season from hell and we’re going to be picking first overall,' or whatever you guys had. We’re just happy we’re able to keep it in perspective and we’re back in it, back there.

"And that’s what we have to keep doing. I like our group and we’re playing good and we’re playing with confidence.and we feel like we can win games.
