Noel still assessing lineup after road game loss
MONTREAL — He would appear to have licence to make some changes but Winnipeg Jets head coach Claude Noel again steadfastly refused to make knee-jerk reactions for games ahead.
The Jets lost 4-3 to the Montreal Canadiens here Tuesday night, a game in which they came in second at special teams and blew an opportunity to win on the road.
Noel cited numerous mistakes after the defeat, which dropped his team to 3-2-1.
But he wouldn’t say when 19-year-old Mark Scheifele might get back in the lineup, if at all, nor would he commit to any game duty for defenceman Zach Redmond or Anthony Peluso, which would be their first this season.
"I just need to make a better assessment of things when we travel down to Florida today," Noel said before the team headed for the airport to fly to Ft. Lauderdale.
They play the Florida Panthers in Sunrise on Thursday night (6:30 p.m. CT, TSNJets, TSN1290).
"I’m not going to start looking... I’ll look at a lot of things," Noel said. "There are a lot of things we need to look at. One of them is the lineup. Other things are: Where are we at here in this process of the number of games we’ve played?
"There are a lot of things I didn’t like that we established ... we had no early pressure in the first period. There was no game to our game."
