Oak Park starts off basketball tournament with victory over Glenlawn

The Oak Park Raiders opened the 2012 Wesmen Classic high school boys' basketball tournament with a victory, beating the Glenlawn Lions 85-77 on Thursday afternoon at the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre.

Oak Park, ranked No. 2 in the provincial AAAA top 10, was led by guard Junior Sesay with 32 points and guard Casey Blanca with 15 points.

Glenlawn point guard Austin Arsenault and guard Evan Bruce garnered 19 points each.

The tournament continues Thursday with Sturgeon Heights and Kildonan East playing at 2 p.m. followed at 3:45 p.m. by the Kelvin Clippers meeting the St. Paul's Crusaders. At 5:30 p.m., the defending Wesmen Classic and provincial champion Garden City Fighting Gophers will take on the John Taylor Pipers.

The semifinals are Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m.

The championship game is Sunday at 6 p.m. followed at 8 p.m. by the university men's championship final.
