Occupy Winnipeg to move to Old Market Square

Months after it quietly faded into the night, Winnipeg's occupation will be re-energized.

On Wednesday, representatives from Occupy Winnipeg announced they would claim Old Market Square on Thursday night, as the global movement returns to public spaces this spring.

Organizers will meet at Mondragon on Albert Street before turning out to Old Market Square with signs, tents and sleeping bags.

The decision to occupy the square was made after a May 1 march and rally, organizers said in a release, "even for just one night."

The Occupy movement launched in New York City last fall to protest rising income inequality. It quickly grew into a global phenomenon, with Occupy participants camping out in public spaces across Canada, the United States, and the world.
