Officials camp out to lure blood donors

WINNIPEG - A nationwide blood shortage means Canadian Blood Services workers in Winnipeg will camp outside their William Avenue building until they book 500 donor appointments.

Starting today, staff, volunteers and management will take turns camping out near the entrance to 777 William Ave. during the long weekend to encourage Winnipeggers to do their part. The event will include prizes, games and food.

Canadian Blood Services needs to collect 137,200 units of blood by Sept. 11 to meet national hospital demands. They are already 10,000 donations appointments short.

To book a donor appointment, drop by to 777 William Ave. or call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283).
