RCMP officers detour vehicles heading north from Brandon on Highway 10 after a head-on collision between a semi trailer and another vehicle on Highway 10 south of Forrest on Friday evening.

A driver was killed Friday night when a pickup truck collided head-on with a semi truck on Highway 10 just north of Brandon.

The pickup truck was headed south around 8:45 p.m. when it struck a semi truck travelling north, RCMP said. After the collision both vehicles caught fire.

The driver of the semi was not injured, but the driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead. RCMP have not released identifying information about the driver pending notification of next of kin..

The fertilizer load remained intact and was not affected by the fire, which has been extinguished — however the area is closed to traffic "due to the hazardous nature of the cargo," RCMP said.

Investigators were still at the scene late Friday night.
