Cartier man dies in highway rollover

A  52-year-old man from Cartier died early today when he was ejected from his vehicle when it rolled over near Elie, RCMP said.

The rollover happened about 4:30 a.m. on Highway 248, about five kilometres north of Elie. Seatbelt use is considered to be a factor at this time, RCMP said.

Initial investigation indicates that a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu was northbound on Highway 248 when the vehicle left the roadway, rolling over at least once, ejecting the driver, RCMP said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His name will not be released.

The vehicle came to rest about 25 metres off the highway, in a field. The deceased man was found outside the vehicle by a passerby.

Just before 7 a.m., his body, covered by a sheet, was loaded into an ambulance.

There were no other persons or vehicles involved.

An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst is assisting with the investigation.
