Coun. John Orlikow beat off challenger Michael Kowalson after a bitter battle in River Heights-Fort Garry tonight.
The councillor, elected just 19 months ago in a byelection, won with 8,946 votes over Kowalson's 7,387. The final numbers don't include the advance poll which Orlikow won and they are not official.
"It was a hard one," Orlikow said as supporters cheered.
"But that's what makes it all worthwhile."
The election was a war for weeks with controversy about traffic circles and anonymous flyers overshadowing other issues of crime and infrastructure.
