Pair arrested on suspicion of stealing poppy money
Two people accused of stealing money raised from poppy sales prior to Remembrance Day were arrested Thursday.
Winnipeg police say a man and woman entered a gas bar on St. Mary's Road on Nov. 7 about 2 p.m. While the woman distracted the clerk, the man stole the poppy display box with an undisclosed amount of money inside.
Two suspects were identified but fled the city before being found, and arrest warrants were issued.
This week, two people alleged to have commited the theft were picked up without incident.
Dallas Ian Jensen, 23, of Winnipeg, and Averi Anne Cairns, 21, of Winnipeg, have been charged with theft under $5,000 and released on a promise to appear in court.
