Condition of man on mobility scooter upgraded to stable

The condition of a man on a mobility scooter hit by a vehicle on Portage Avenue at Rouge Road late Tuesday morning has been upgraded to stable. He was taken to hospital in unstable condition.

"An investigation revealed that an adult male was crossing the roadway northbound on a mobility scooter at this location, when he was struck by a westbound vehicle," police said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

WPS spokesman Patrol Sgt. Monica Stothers said that based on witness statements, no charges are contemplated against the vehicle driver at this time.

Police had said in an earlier release, about two hours after the collision: "On Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at approximately 10:35 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of Cavalier Drive and Portage Avenue regarding a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.''
