Pedestrian recovering in hospital after St. James crash

A pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Portage Avenue in the St. James area Tuesday morning is in serious but stable condition in hospital.

The 48-year-old woman was sent to hospital in unstable condition after she was struck on Portage Avenue at Woodlawn Street Tuesday morning around 7:30 a.m.

Winnipeg Police said traffic was stopped at the intersection when a 30-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Monte Carlo moved into the curb lane and drove through the intersection just as the light turned green.

The woman was still crossing the street and was struck by the car.

Police do yet not know if charges will be laid against the driver but said they are trying to determine the speed the vehicle was travelling.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, police said.
