An estimated 520 aboriginal women who have gone missing or been murdered in Canada in the last four decades.
The Native Women’s Association of Canada, through its Sisters in Spirit project, is gradually documenting the names and stories of each one -- including 75 women from Manitoba.
Sisters in Spirit researchers feel their list isn’t complete yet but there are common threads running through the narratives, and the underlying currents leading to many deaths are similar.
In some cases, families are victimized more than once.
