Seriously why can't we OPT OUT of getting the phone books? I haven't used one in years. They are a waste of space in my small house, hard for my arthritic hands to pick up and use, and bad for the environment.
It really would make sense if I could say no to the phone books. It also means I wouldn't have to recyle them.

Send out a form....cool. More paper, that should help reduce the amount of trees cut down.

Wow...winnipegers complain a lot. winnipeg indian...if in fact you are a native canadian um...i believe this is supposed to be your peoples land...if anything...you of all people should care about what people are trying to do to preserve or at least save and reuse. i agree there are plenty of trees around...IN VANCOUVER BC!!!...and just because there are lots of trees doesn't mean they stay...you do realize that we are depleting them from the earth every day...it's only paper, huh? and who is responsible for destroying forests? you know what i want to complain about? the fact that every back yard in the north end looks like a landfill, the broken down homes that have potential to make revenue yet are taken for granted and the fact that people don't make money from recycling...ya'll should move to vancouver...you'd see things in a different light...i moved here for this? too many whiners. however i do agree...it's the new millenium...i think everything should be online and it is a waste of time bringing these back...the blue box is enough since the city doesn't discern what is what and is probably sorted out or put in your landfills anyways...they should just send out a form to fill out which of those want the hard copy and those who don't...one shot...less paper.

Geez all these long-haired tree-hugger types always get so worked up over phone books. It's only paper for heavens sake. There's plenty of trees around. I burn my used one in the back yard. The blue smoke that comes off is really pretty. No need to worry about recycling.

Can't you just put them in your regular recycling bin instead of hauling them to a depot? I must say, I almost never use the phone books anymore. everything is online these days.

I used to live ruraly, and we picked up our phone books at the post office. Only people who wanted a new phone book got one. Online is a good option, providing people have access to the internet 24/7 which lots of people do not.

I agree - let's have an opt-in or opt-out system. I got my new phone book and yellow pages last night. It went straight to the recycling. I have a laptop and a BlackBerry. I have no need for paper copies.

I agree well said purple, is there an online phonebook? that would cut the waste as well. I wouldnt want a new phone book if i could just look them up online.
