Picnicface seeks fans' support

  • Print

Surviving in the Canadian TV business is no picnic… but the Halifax-based sketch troupe Picnicface isn’t going to take its demise lying down.

After having its self-titled TV series cancelled by the Comedy Network after just one season, Picnicface has taken to the Internet in an effort to enlist fans in an all-out effort to save the show. Under the banner "Picnicface is Homeless — You Can Help," the group has launched a website and invited fans to post (preferably) tearful testimonials as part of a video petition aimed at convincing another Canadian broadcaster that the troupe and the series are worthy of a new TV home.

Kids in the Hall members Dave Foley and Mark McKinney are among the first to offer video endorsements of the Picnicface effort.

The eight-member comedy troupe has appeared at past editions of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. Picnicface regulars Evany Rosen and Cheryl Hann were in this year’s festival lineup.
