Pierce out, Elliott questionable for game against Alouettes
By Ashley Prest
Quarterback Buck Pierce will miss the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' last game of the season on Saturday and back-up Joey Elliott is questionable.
Bombers head coach Tim Burke listed those players among a list of players who are out, doubtful and questionable when he met with the local media this morning.
The Bombers, eliminated from post-season play after last Saturday's 28-18 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, will end the 2012 season on Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Montreal Alouettes at Canad Inns Stadium.
It is also expected to be the team's last game at that venue as the new stadium at the University of Manitoba, Investors Group Field, is supposed to be ready for the 2013 Canadian Football League season.
In addition to Pierce, who has a shoulder injury, Burke said the following players will miss Saturday's game: RB Chad Simpson (foot), RB Will Ford (shoulder) SB Terrence Edwards (foot), R Isaac Anderson (shoulder). Others who could possibly miss the game include DB Demond Washington (questionable), DB Johnny Sears (doubtful), Elliott (questionable), DL Bryant Turner (probable), DL Kenny Mainor (probable).
Burke said third-string pivot Alex Brink would be next in line to start and fourth quarterback Justin Goltz will likely see some action against the Alouettes.
"If Joey can't go, or if he's banged up, it'll be Alex," Burke said. "If he's (Elliott) banged up where he's have some mobility problems, he'd be in a backup role.
"He (Goltz) will get some (playing time). He'll run our wildcat package. We might throw him in there in some other downs."
