Plane makes emergency landing in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG - A plane full of passengers bound for Asia made an emergency landing in Winnipeg today.

On Monday afternoon, crew on United Airlines flight 835, which originated in Chicago, noticed smoke in the cabin. The Boeing 777, which was bound for Shanghai, was diverted to Winnipeg, where it made a safe landing at about 1:40 p.m.

A spokeswoman for United said that the airline is working to reaccomodate an unspecified number of stranded passengers today, and that it is not yet known what may have caused the smoke.
