WINNIPEG — Josh Wytinck of Glenboro rolled home a birdie putt from three feet on the first extra hole this afternoon to win a four-man playoff for the Nott Autocorp Manitoba Amateur championship at Glendale.
Wytinck bested Breezy Bend's Garth Collings, Southwood's Charlie Boyechko and Teulon's Aaron Cockerill for the Manitoba Free Press trophy after all four finished the 72-hole championship at one-over-par 289.
The 20-year-old winner, a member of the University of Manitoba golf team and staff member at Pine Ridge Golf Club, is believed to be the first-ever provincial amateur champ from western Manitoba.
Collings was seeking a fourth amateur title and missed his best chance to win it outright on the 72nd hole when his 15-foot birdie putt slipped just past the hole.
Boyechko was in control the tournament for most of the final day. He was four shots ahead of all his rivals with just two holes to play but finished with a bogey, double bogey and bogey on Glendale's 16th, 17th and 18th holes.
