Winnipeggers, here’s your chance to pull up a seat at what will be the world’s largest dinner table.
Presented by StorefrontMB and 5468796 Architecture, Table for 1200 is an outdoor pop-up dinner that will take place on May 31 at a location in downtown Winnipeg to be disclosed to attendees one hour before the event. A series of 150 eight-foot tables will be assembled to create one 1,200-foot long table. The event is BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair).
Designed to engage the public in a dialogue about architecture and design and put the spotlight on the creative scene that exists here, Table for 1200 is part of the Architecture Fringe Festival, which runs May 22 to 31. It’s also the grand finale of Table for 12, Canada’s 2013 Professional Prix de Rome Project, which was awarded to 5468796 Architecture by the Canada Council for the Arts. The firm hosted a series of dinners in eight cities around the world as part of a reconnaissance mission to find out what makes other design scenes tick.
The team behind Winnipeg’s now-famous winter river pop-up RAW:almond — Mandel Hitzer from deer + almond and Joe Kalturnyk from RAW Gallery — will have a hand in the planning and execution of the evening’s prairie-themed menu along with Ben Kramer from Diversity Food Services.
Individual tickets for the event are $35 and will be released to the general public at midnight tonight at www.tablefor1200.ca.
