The Assiniboine Park Zoo is unwrapping a pair of new polar bear cubs this afternoon.

Aurora and Kaska, the two 12-month-old female cubs, are scheduled to make their first public appearance at the International Polar Bear Conservation Centre (IPBCC). The cubs are expected to be unveiled at 1 p.m. and will remain on exhibit during regular zoo hours.

"We’re hoping to see the zoo filled with many smiling faces over the holidays," zoological operations director Dr. Brian Joseph said in a statement. "The polar bears absolutely love this cold weather and it’s a great time of year to come and visit them."

As a stocking stuffer, the zoo is offering free admission to children aged 12 and under starting today through Jan. 5. Gates are open daily from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Hours are limited on Christmas Eve (9 a.m.-noon) and the zoo is closed on Christmas Day.
