Charges laid in stabbing death

Winnipeg police have charged a woman in connection to her sister's fatal stabbing Friday night on William Avenue.

The incident in the 400 block of William in the city's Centennial neighbourhood was reported at around 8:15 p.m., according to Winnipeg police spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen.

Police say two sisters were at home and got involved a fight that escalated. An 18-year-old woman pulled out a knife and confronted her older sister, who police say took the knife away and stabbed the younger sister in the upper body.

Paige Chelsea Moloi-Straightnose, 18, was taken to hospital in critical condition but died as a result of her injuries.

Nebula Niome Moloi-Straightnose, 21, faces manslaughter charges.

The Winnipeg police homicide unit is continuing its investigation.
