Police arrest two people in Valentine's Day drug busts
Winnipeg police reported two more busts in their ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.
The latest arrests on Valentine's Day netted a cache of nearly a quarter-million dollars in cash, a stash of cocaine and marijuana and thousands of dollars worth of property.
For more than six months, Winnipeg's police districts in the east and south ends of the city have joined forces with the province in a bid to bring drug trafficking to heel in the city. So far, the wide-ranging investigation has resulted in 12 search warrants and 20 arrests.
In the latest busts they had assistance from the tactic support unit in the raids on an East Kildonan home on the 200 block of Emerson Avenue and another on the 400 block of Shorehill Drive.
In addition to cocaine and marijuana, police seized two canisters of pepper spray, a collapsible baton, $240,000 in cash and $19,500 worth of property related to proceeds of crime.
Manitoba Justice Safer Neighbourhoods worked with the East District's general patrol unit and the community support unit on the crackdown.
A 27-year-old Winnipeg man and a 22-year-old woman from Lockport were arrested and face various criminal charges.
