Police K-9s collar two suspects

Two men are in custody after Winnipeg police’s K-9 unit was used to track suspects in separate incidents Wednesday.

Police said the K-9 unit was first brought to the 1300 block of Main Street at 3 a.m., when a man wearing a balaclava and acting suspiciously snuck into a convenience store, grabbed a quantity of cigarettes and fled.

The K-9 unit was able to track a suspect to an adjacent apartment building.

Later that night, the K-9 unit was used when an armed man threatened a gas bar clerk in the 700 block of Osborne Street at about 9:30 p.m. and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The K-9 unit tracked a suspect to a nearby residence.

Both suspects are being held in custody facing charges.
