Police canine unit helps nab fleeing suspect

Winnipeg police arrested a fleeing suspect Friday and later charged her in connection to drug possession and various traffic violations.

On Friday around 3 p.m., a Winnipeg traffic officer spotted a road infraction in the area of McDermot Avenue and Princess Street.

When the officer tried to pull over the vehicle, the driver refused to stop but was eventually forced to pull over in the 100 block of Princess. The officer approached the vehicle but the driver drove off and slammed into three other vehicles in the process. The driver drove into a nearby parkade and fled on foot.

A canine unit was called in and a suspect was found a short distance away and arrested Caley Elizabeth Steele, 25, of Lac du Bonnet, has been charged with possession of a controlled drug or substance (methamphetamine), dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, failing to comply with the condition of an undertaking and failing to wear a seatbelt. She was also processed on an outstanding warrant.

Steele was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
