Police investigate death of driver found in Plum Coulee

Altona police have launched an investigation after a 52-year-old truck driver died a day after being found critically injured in a Plum Coulee diner parking lot.

A fellow truck driver found the man lying outside near his vehicle in the Sunset Diner parking lot at about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, said Perry Batchelor, police chief of the Altona Police Service.

The driver had suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital in Winkler. He was stabilized and then transported to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, where he died late Wednesday night, Batchelor said.

The truck driver’s name has not been released.

Batchelor said the man's death is considered suspicious. Altona police are waiting for results of an autopsy to be performed today, he said.
