Police investigate death of woman who fell ill in custody
The RCMP have called in the Saskatoon Police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 39-year-old woman who had fallen ill while in custody in Thompson.
The RCMP said the woman, originally from Shamattawa, became ill Sept. 3. She was taken to the local hospital and then transferred to hospital in Winnipeg, where she died Sept. 7.
Police are waiting for the autopsy results.
RCMP policy requires an independent investigation be conducted in the case of in-custody deaths. Although the woman died in hospital she first became ill while in custody and police said the same policy is being applied in this case.
The RCMP refused to disclose any additional information.
