A 22-year-old man has died from gunshot wounds suffered at about 4 a.m. today when he was shot in the 100 block of Essex Avenue.

A 27-year-old man who was also shot is in hospital in stable condition, said Winnipeg Police Service Const. Eric Hofley.

Police continue to investigate and have not released any other details.

Residents of the quiet neighbourhood two blocks from Glenwood School say they heard noises in the night, but were not aware there had been a violent incident until police swarmed into the area moments later.
