Winnipeg police are looking for a Winnipegger who bolted after an assault early on New Year's Eve, but they don't want to make an arrest.
A patrolling officer came upon an assault in progress in the 400 block of Main Street shortly after midnight on Dec. 31 but when he tried to apprehend the man, a confrontation erupted. It was then that a passerby lent the officer a hand until additional officers could arrive. Thanks to the good Samaritan the suspect was safely taken into custody, but before he could be thanked by officers, he was gone.
Winnipeg police would like him to contact them at (204) 986-6288.
