Man taken into custody after standoff on Eaglemere

WINNIPEG — A standoff with police in East Kildonan lasted more than five hours before ending peacefully with a man taken into custody early this morning.
A man holed up in his home in the 100 block of Eaglemere Drive, not far from Concordia Hospital, was taken into custody around 12:20 a.m.
Police had arrived in the neighbourhood around 7 p.m. after reports the man had a gun.
Negotations were under way with "highly skilled officers," said Winnipeg Police Service information officer Const. Natalie Aiken.
Lagimodiere Boulevard was closed to traffic in the area. Many of the neighbours in the residential area were on the streets and front yards watching developments.
No one was evacuated or reported injured.
Neighbour Gulbaj Dhillon said he has lived for three years beside the house where the man was holed up. Dhillon's house was blocked off by police and he couldn't enter it.
Dhillon said he tried to befriend the suspect but he said the man was very reclusive. Dhillon said the man has a wife, son and foster daughter.
Police said the original call was for a domestic dispute.
