Winnipeg police are searching for a man who broke into a Fort Rouge home and tried to sexually assault a sleeping 14-year-old girl early Friday.
Officers were called around 2 a.m. after the teen awoke to find the intruder in her bedroom. Police say the stranger "made contact" with the girl but she was not injured.
"It is believed that the suspect’s intentions were sexual in nature," police said in a news release.
The man fled the home, located in the area of Wellington Crescent and Cockburn Street North. Police began an extensive search of the area involving their Canine Unit but were unable to find him.
Members of the sex crimes unit are continuing the investigation with help from the forensic identification unit.
The suspect is described as a black male between 20 and 30 years of age, average build, bald or closely shaved hair and with spots or freckles on his face.
Anyone with information regarding this matter or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
